IB Diploma Theatre Course

What is the course about?

It's a chance to explore a live art form by collaborating with others to make theatre and presenting it to others. Students can work as creators, designers, actors and directors.

How is the course structured?

There are 3 core elements:
Working with play texts: students will research the context of a play and reflect on live theatre they have seen. They will take parts of 2 contrasting plays from page to stage and direct a scene from a play for an audience Examining world theatre:Students explore the conventions of a theatre tradition by presenting theatre to show the convention Collaboratively create original theatre:students will participate in a group production of original theatre inspired by the approaches of a professional theatre company Higher level only:
Students research a theatre theorist by creating, presenting and evaluating a theatre piece based on an aspect of their chosen theorist's work.

Are there any requirements?

There are no prior academic requirements but students must be willing to work with others and have the ability to write at length for the log book which must be kept throughout the course.

What materials will I need?

Nothing specifically but it is likely you will need ingenuity to find or make many unusual things as required.

What will I learn?

It enables students to discover and engage with different forms of theatre across time, place and culture and promotes international-mindedness.
